A Message from the Chief...

Greetings, Elizabeth City

As Interim Chief of Police, I remain committed to fostering innovative and forward thinking approaches to public safety. I will continue to engage our community stakeholders as we develop and implement strategies to ensure the safety and well-being of all who live, work and visit Elizabeth City. I have served the community for nearly 20 years in various capacities. I am a native of Bertie County, North Carolina, and began my distinguished law enforcement career in May 2000 with the Bertie County Sheriff's Office. I initially served in the Patrol Division and was later assigned to the Criminal Investigative Division. Eventually, I became a specialized Domestic Violence Detective. On November 5, 2005, I joined the Elizabeth City Police Department, beginning in the Patrol Division. Over the years, I steadily rose through the ranks, earning a promotion to Detective in the Criminal Investigative Division in 2010, Patrol Sergeant in 2017, and Detective Sergeant in 2018.

I have 25 years of dedicated service and have completed thousands of hours of law enforcement training. I hold both Intermediate and Advanced Law Enforcement Certifications from the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. I am also a graduate of the prestigious West Point Leadership Program at Methodist University.

My commitment to excellence has been recognized through several accolades, including being named Officer of the Year by the North State Law Enforcement Officers Association in 2013 and Employee of the Year by the Elizabeth City Police Department in 2017. I also served on the security detail at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte,  North Carolina in 2012.

In addition to my professional accomplishments, I have a deep commitment to civic and community engagement. I have served on numerous boards, including City Councilman for the Town of Lewiston Woodville as Police Commissioner, the North Carolina Homicide Investigators Association, and as President of the Leander Repass Chapter of the North State Law Enforcement Officers Association. I also serve as Chairman of the Board for Just Girls and am an active Trustee at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church in Elizabeth City.

The dedicated men and women of the Elizabeth City Police Department are here to protect and serve our community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Sincerely,

Eddie Graham Jr.

Interim Chief of Police
