Weatherization Assistance Program

The Weatherization Assistance Program is a City program modeled after the federal program administered by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and Office of Economic Opportunity.  This program is designed to help the City's low to moderate income utility customers lower their electric usage and costs through energy audits, weatherization retrofits and customer education.

Weatherizing a utility customer's home involves conducting a whole house energy assessment at no cost to the customer to identify the most cost effective improvements for the home.  The three major improvements performed within the unit are:
  1. Reducing excessive air infiltration;
  2. Reducing heating and cooling lost through attics, walls and floors;
  3. Evaluation of heating and cooling equipment.
Improving indoor air quality and health safety are also a part of the assessment.  This program is not a remodeling, maintenance or home rehabilitation program.
