Historical Listing of Elected Officials

The City of Elizabeth City was incorporated in 1793 as the town of "Redding". In 1794, the name was changed to "Elizabeth Town" followed by the name "Elizabeth City" in 1801. The historical listing of elected officials provided below is not complete for all those who have served. Rather, the names of all mayors are listed from 1886 to present; while a listing of the entire Council is provided from 1970 to present. Additional information is available from the archived minutes of the City Council.
