Since it's inception in 1837, the Elizabeth City Fire Department (ECFD) has a long, proud history of providing quality services to the citizens and visitors of our community.

The Administration of the Elizabeth City Fire Department consists of the Chief of the Department, Assistant Chief of Operations, Deputy Chief of Administration/Fire Marshal, Assistant Fire Marshal, and a Fire Inspector/Public Educator.

We proudly provide many services to our community, including but not limited to fire suppression, medical first response, child safety seat programs, fire prevention programs, smoke detector installation, fire investigations, pre-incident planning, and inspections.

Being located in small town North Carolina, we are very community oriented and hope that you love and enjoy our city as much as we do.

Operations & Suppression

The Elizabeth City Fire Department Operations and Suppression Division operates out of two fire stations to staff four fire companies.

Three shifts work a rotating schedule of 24 hours on-duty followed by 48 hours off-duty and each shift is staffed with a Battalion Chief, three Captains, three Engineers and six Firefighters.

Mission Statement: The mission of the Elizabeth City Fire Department is to provide the highest professional level of life and property safety through the extension of Life Safety Operations, Fire prevention, and Public Education Programs.

Vision Statement: The vision of the Elizabeth City Fire Department is to serve and protect the citizens of Elizabeth City from fires, injuries, medical issues, and natural or man-made disasters and to improve the quality of life for our citizens.
